Salt&Pepper Mills

Salt&Pepper Mills

Custom made mills

If you would like a pair of mills you can specify their shape and size, the wood and the finish.

The mills shown here are made from mahogany for the pepper and ash for the salt mill to give contrasting colours. They are 18 cms tall.

My design

Most salt and pepper mills are designed so that the grains are produced from the bottom of the mill. This is convenient when picking them up at the table.

However, when they are put down a few grains of the salt and pepper invariably, annoyingly, get deposited on the table.

In order to keep the table tidy I make cups that the mills stand in. Any stray grains are then captured without leaving them on the table.

Simply lift the mill out of the cup, use it, and pop it back in its cup.

Ordering your mills

Use the contact page to request details and specify your requirements.

Prices start from £35 and are dependent on wood and size of the mills.

It is generally considered that the best grinding mechanisms for salt and pepper table mills are made by CrushGrind. I use CrushGrind in my mills.

The grinders are fully adjustable to give a range of grain size from fine to coarse. There are 14 settings.

The grinders are ceramic and are guaranteed for 25 years, so confident is the manufacturer of their quality and longevity.

One particular advantage of the salt mill is that the ceramic parts, unlike steel parts, won't rust.

The mills can be used for grinding other spices.
